The Chilton Mk1

The Chilton Mk1

Our first watch, the Chilton, was an attempt to make a modern class: a clean 3-register manual-wind no-date chrono. We wanted a watch you could imagine being in some cool relative’s drawer: something that looked like a watch out of time.

For the Chilton Mk2, I kept thinking of the Valjoux 7750. There’s been no more dominant design in chronographs; for 50 years, that 6/9/12 layout’s been common as lint. I kept wondering though if there was a way to make it hit different. Specifically, I kept coming back to the seconds hand on the legendary porthole LeCoultre Futurematic, where the seconds hand is a disc that rotates under the dial.

This is what we came up with. At 12 you’ve got a 30 minute register, at 6 you’ve got the hours, at 3 you’ve got the date, and at 9 you’ve got the running seconds in the form of

Colorful and rugged and a watch that takes its fun very seriously, the Chilton's a reliable go-anywhere do-anything classic.
